Behind the Winners: What Makes Projects Shine in 2026

The Urban Developer Awards for Industry Excellence return in 2026, presented in partnership with Trilogy Funds.

In 2025, the program attracted a record number of submissions, producing more than 200 finalists across 28 categories. This year, 25 categories will again spotlight the projects and organisations shaping the future of the built environment.

So, what separates a strong development from an award-winning one?

Clear vision and strong execution

Award-winning projects demonstrate a clear development vision supported by strong delivery.

City-shaping developments such as Quay Quarter Tower and Nicholas Street Precinct show how successful projects combine commercial performance with broader precinct impact.

Judges look for developments that are well-conceived, well-executed and capable of delivering lasting value.

Sustainability that drives long-term value

Sustainability is now a core benchmark for development excellence.

Projects such as Nightingale Village, Carseldine Village and Wyvern Private Hospital demonstrate how environmental performance can strengthen both asset value and community outcomes.

Developments that address energy efficiency, carbon reduction and long-term resilience consistently stand out.

Innovation in design and delivery

In competitive markets, how you build matters as much as what you build.

Design-led projects such as Total Fusion Platinum and Glasshouse show how creative thinking elevates both functionality and market appeal—be it through architectural quality with smarter construction methods, technology or development strategies.

Community and placemaking

Projects that contribute positively to their surrounding communities consistently perform well.

Liverpool Civic Place and the Sydney Metro Martin Place Integrated Station Development illustrate how well-planned developments create vibrant public spaces and lasting local connections.

Judges are increasingly recognising projects that strengthen the social and economic life of a precinct—not just its physical form.

With more than 30 independent judges, The Urban Developer Awards for Industry Excellence remain one of Australia’s most credible benchmarks for development excellence.

For developers entering in 2026, the message is clear: the strongest projects combine commercial outcomes with design quality, sustainability and meaningful community impact.

A nomination is also a statement—that a project is worth measuring against the best in the country.

Nominations close on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
